Foreword

The 2022 Australian federal election was marked by the public’s insistence on change. At the most obvious level, this entailed a demand that there be a change of government. But in several ways the election marks a clear difference from other change-of-government elections. For instance, 2022 saw a challenge to the conventional wisdom that when the Australian public changes the government, it does so on a large scale.
