It really seems unthinkable, does it not, that a leading community organisation would engage prominent citizens in supporting an ‘Ableist Watch’, but this is an aspect of the challenge to politicise disability, because the issues of alienation and oppression are similar in many ways to those of racism. It is in fact extraordinary how often one encounters lists of disadvantaged groups in our society without any reference to disability. For many people who experience disability, this confirms their marginality and invisibility.
